Dr Roger Tiang is a graduate of the University of Otago and has been in private practice in New Zealand for over 10 years.  He has been a member of a number of local, national and international dental associations including the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the New Zealand Dentists’ Orthodontic Society (NZDOS), the International Association for Orthodontics and was one of the founders of the New Zealand Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (NZACD).  He has also served on the committees of both the NZACD and NZDOS.

Dr Tiang was born and bred in Hamilton before heading to Otago University to gain his dental degree.  He spent his initial time in private practice in Wellington before shifting to Auckland to become a partner at Downtown Dental.  Very early on in his career he developed a real interest in cosmetic dentistry and has pursued this to the top levels of his profession having the privilege of being involved from day one in what is now New Zealand’s largest organization dedicated to cosmetic dentistry, the NZACD. More recently, in response to a growing number of people traveling great distances from throughout NZ to see him, Dr Tiang also now has an arrangement to utilize the facilities at Northcare Dental Centre in Hamilton to provide easier access to cosmetic and non-specialist orthodontic services to people outside of Auckland.

Dr Tiang firmly believes that as a healthcare professional, he should continue to enhance his skills and knowledge as a clinician and has travelled extensively to further his knowledge with some of the finest dentists at the most well-known private post-graduate educational facilities in the world, such as the Kois Centre in Seattle and the Fahl Centre for Aesthetic Dentistry in Brazil.  At home, Dr Tiang is heavily involved with facilitating continuing dental education for his colleagues here in New Zealand being regularly involved with conferences and seminars both in a teaching and organisational capacity.

More recently Dr Tiang has developed an interest in orthodontics as a natural adjunct to cosmetic dentistry with a special interest in combining the two for the ultimately most conservative and healthy route to a beautiful smile.  In response to the demands of modern society, Dr Tiang has developed a particular interest in “stealth orthodontic” techniques, straightening teeth with minimal visibility. His most recent achievement in this respect has been being recognised by Invisalign as New Zealand’s first Platinum Provider recognizing the experience he has developed in this technique.

By using orthodontics to move teeth in addition to cosmetic dentistry to enhance the appearance of the teeth he is able to provide his patients with solutions which look fantastic and will last as long as modern dentistry is able to provide.
